What are the basic principles of time travel?

I really do not understand too well the concept of other dimensions and I 'm sure many others don 't one or the other. I was watching the slot science each day and were talking of travel time and how it 's possible that there were people from future was trapped in our time, why don' t know to get back. They also mentioned something about how you could clock the race and ending up in a dimension that has seen exactly like that come from, but it isn 't. The idea that there really is a future world that turns on at the same time as our own world is astounding. The whole people interviewed was respected scientists, so they obviously knew what they were talking about. What are your thoughts on the race time and other dimensions?
